When to evaluate your website: Targets Change
Websites are not like wine. They don’t get better with age. In fact, having an outdated website can be very harmful to your business. We recommend an annual review of your website just to make sure you are on track. That does not mean you need a complete overhaul every year, but just that you are keeping up with the needs of your web presence. In this series we will look at the four big areas that cause your website to stagnate: trends, technologies, targets, and tasks.
This week we are looking at the way targets change and how that impacts your website.
When evaluating your website it is important to know who you want attract. All businesses have a target audience. Sure, most businesses can sell to or service anyone, but there is certain demographic that is ideal. Your website should be planned to appeal to those people in the images, wording, and device compatibility.
As a business evolves and as people age, the audience and needs of the audience will change. No business wants to alienate customers or become irrelevant. When we evaluate your website we cant to consider who your ideal customer is and how they have changed since the website was built.
Another consideration in a target change is geographic. For some businesses this is not a factor. For others, the location of your business is key to your success. Moving business locations and opening new locations are things that should be incorporated into your website.
So now what? Take a few minutes and look critically at your website. Also, look at a few other websites in and outside of your industry. From there, let’s make a plan of any changes that could be made to keep your website current.
